La Precious Shannon — Portfolio
Hello, I'm

La Precious Shannon

I am a Graduate Student at UC Irvine working on a Master’s of Science in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with a focus in Systems and Design. I recently graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering with a concentration in Electrical Engineering.

My goal as an engineer is to utilize my skills and knowledge for the betterment of society and our planet. I love robotics and am very excited to see what advancements that field can create in the health sector and space exploration.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
Co-Founder and Program Chair

Established the University of San Francisco’s NSBE chapter. As the executive board, we established a professional framework, guiding strategic growth and coordinating technical workshops to drive academic excellence and community engagement.

Society of Women Engineers
Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

Dedicated to advancing inclusive engineering practices and supporting the professional growth and technical leadership of women in the industry.

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

Active participant engaging in continuous technical development and professional networking within the electrical and electronic engineering community.

Innovation Makerspace
Innovation Makerspace
Laboratory Assistant

As a laboratory assistant in an innovation makerspace, I trained students of various backgrounds on equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutter machines, and soldering tools. I also debugged and troubleshot equipment when needed, and hosted tours of the space to prospective students and their families.

Summer Zero program
Summer Zero
Peer Mentor & Teacher's Assistant

For two consecutive summers, I was a peer mentor and TA for incoming engineering students in a summer program. I TA'd their Programming Project class, helping students get familiar with PyCharm, Arduino IDE, and Arduino circuits over Zoom. As a peer mentor, I worked with a team of fellow mentors to create a welcoming, fun environment through interactive workshops and hangouts, and made sure our students knew their campus resources.
